    Default Family Traditions?

What kind of family traditions do you have?

Every Sunday my family gathers at my grandma's around 3pm for Sunday dinner.. Every Sunday there is about 20 people in her house at once. (I know so soul food...lol) but a couple Sundays she was put in the hospital for a stroke, and for the first time we didn't have a Sunday dinner. I was so lost with the day and didn't know what to do. So this past Sunday I called everyone and told them that I would cook Sunday dinner and that my aunts didn't have to stress about cooking and getting to the hospital to see my grandma (she has been there for 2 weeks now). Now I'm usually in charge of making my grandma's secret recipe for Mac and Cheese so it was a little different for me to cook the whole meal. Even though it felt weird without my grandma there to eat, It felt good to have the family back to normal. And I must add I made the best spaghetti ever!!

I hope your grandmother is feeling better.

Me, my mamaw and my sister go to the local elementary school once a year for Pioneer Day, which is a small fall festival I guess where you can get alot of stuff for less than a dollar! (You can get a trash bag full of stuff for 5 bucks, and at the end of the day, you can get it for $1)

I cried reading this thread. Since this thread it really hasn't been the same. We still have Sunday dinners at my grandma's but she had a massive stroke and has been bed ridden ever since. She is not able to help out or participate with anything. I think at times we just take for granted the small things. I'm grateful to still have my Mamaw with us, but I miss how things used to be.

We have a lot of traditions around the holidays. We go to the pumpkin patch every year, the boys each pick a small pumpkin then we pick a big one as a family. They get to paint theirs and then we carve the big one. For Christmas, we always go see Santa, they write him letters and he writes them back. We decorate the tree as a family, bake cookies on Christmas Eve for Santa. they get to open one gift which is always new pjs to wear to bed that night. We have small traditions like taking the boys for ice cream during the summer. We try and do a lot with them, spend as much time with them as possible. But nothing really with extended family.
